The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank our law enforcement partners with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia State Patrol, the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the
West Union Police Department and other responded agencies for their assistance today.
Meanwhile, Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw wants to remind residents and visitors to our county not to forget to download the free Pursuit Alert App.
“Last year, the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office began a partnership with Pursuit Alert and became the first law enforcement agencies in the world to use this technology to warn our citizens and visitors about pursuits in Oconee County involving our deputies’,” says Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw. “This morning’s pursuit is a reminder of why this technology is important because citizens and residents will be notified if they are in a two mile vicinity to a sheriff’s office pursuit in order to take safe precautions, but only if they download the app. The app on my phone was activated this morning when the pursuit got close to Walhalla and thankfully, there were no injuries reported as a result of this law enforcement action today.”
Residents and visitors to the area can download the app by going to oconeelaw.com and clicking on the Pursuit Alert link in the middle of the page where they can scan the QR codes.
Or, those who are interested in downloading the App can also type in PursuitAlert in their search bar in the App Store for Android or iOS.
For those who have downloaded the App, if they are traveling and are within a two mile radius of a pursuit, they will receive an audible alert on their phone.
When the same individual is at a stationary location for around 15 minutes, the app will not alert them to a pursuit so therefore they will not be awakened at night if they are in their homes, for example.
